What is the IRS Form 4506-T?
Form 4506-T is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) document that is used to retrieve past tax transcripts that are on file with the IRS.  The document must be signed and dated by the taxpayer, thus giving a third party permission to retrieve the taxpayer’s data.  With the IRS Form 4506T, one can order 1040 (individual), 1120/1120S (business), 1065 (business), Wage and Income, 1041 and 990 transcripts. The document allows a taxpayer to request up to the last 4 most current tax years.

What are the different types of “veri-taxes” that can be requested via the 4506-T?
With the IRS Form 4506-T, one can order 1040 (individual), 1120/1120S (business), 1065 (business), Wage and Income, 1041 and 990 transcripts.

What is the difference between the IRS Form 4506 and the IRS Form 4506-T?
The IRS Form 4506 is used to retrieve photo copies of the tax returns that were filed by the taxpayer. A 4506 can take the IRS up to 60 days to complete. The IRS Form 4506-T is used to obtain IRS Tax transcripts (a “veri-tax”). The 4506-T usually takes 1 business day to obtain from the IRS. Veri-Tax specializes in 4506-T processing and does not offer 4506 services.

What is the difference between a “Copy of the IRS Tax Return” and an “IRS Tax Transcript” (a “veri-tax”)?
An IRS Tax Transcript (“veri-tax”) is a line by line breakdown of the full tax return or data filed by the taxpayer or employer (W-2 & 1099). The photocopy of the return is a copy of the return filed. Tax Transcripts are obtained much more quickly than copies of tax returns. The photocopy is obtained by using the 4506 (not the 4506-T) and takes around 60 days for the IRS to process. Veri-Tax does not process the IRS 4506, instead specializing in fast processing of 4506-T.

How long is the signature date on the 4506-T good for?
IRS Form 4506-T must be signed and dated by the taxpayer. The date is valid for 120 days. This rule is strictly enforced by Veri-Tax and the IRS. Any 4506-T that appears to have an expired, post-dated or altered date will be rejected by Veri-Tax and/or the IRS.

What are some of the reasons why an IRS Form 4506-T are “rejected” or not processed?
The most common reason why the IRS will not process an order is that the address does not match the tax year that is requested on the form. Users are advised to make sure all information is large and readable.
